Hi, I'm Leigh

Hello and thank you for visiting this page. This may be a very sad time in your life and you might be deeply grieving and feeling confused about the next steps forward

With over 20 years experience as a humanist celebrant, I can help take some of the stress away from you in this difficult period by working with you to craft a funeral ceremony that celebrates and honours the life of the dear person you have lost.

I've worked with a wide range of families, helping them bid farewell to the person they loved in a way that was just right for them and the deceased. A humanist funeral ceremony puts the person who has died at its heart and includes contributions, where appropriate, from those who knew and cared for them. It allows those who loved them to say goodbye in the most healing way possible and can help the grieving process.

As a Humanists UK trainer, I help to keep the standard of humanist ceremonies as high as possible so you can be assured that you're in very safe hands as we work together to share your loved one's life story with family and friends.

As a professional writer and broadcaster, I can confidently promise you that the ceremony will be well-crafted, delivered sensitively, and include appropriate poetry and prose.

I'm also here if you need help writing any tribute you might want to deliver to ensure you say everything you want to about your loved one.

MEMORIALS

You may have opted for a direct cremation at the wishes of the deceased but feel the need to do more to celebrate their life and help your grief.

I can lead and help you devise a memorial which brings together all they were and reflects on the difference the deceased made to those around them. Those who attend such events, which are not time-limited, frequently discover facts they never knew about the deceased's life, and a memorial also provides an opportunity for all those who want to speak and share their memories to do so.

I wanted to thank you for the ceremony on Monday. The day went really well and that was, in no small part, due to the way that you presented everything and managed the ceremony. I had people come up to me that had never met Dad and say they felt like they knew him and others that said they didn\'t realise what a life story he had to tell. Thanks again for your hard work in getting the words just right and I will have no hesitating in recommending you to friends.

— Adam, following the funeral for his father.

I just wanted to say thank you so much for your incredibly professional yet compassionate support at Rick's funeral. I really appreciated it and many people remarked on how well you conducted the ceremony.

— Liz, following the funeral for her husband.

On behalf of the entire family of our darling mum, Jane, we would like to thank you for the absolutely stunning service that you did for us yesterday. Everyone said it was exactly what mum would have wanted; she would have loved it. You have made the process of saying goodbye to mum so much easier for us all, and we are very grateful to you.

— Violet, following the funeral for her mother.

Many thanks for your sympathetic and professional contribution to the celebration of our father's life last month in Hythe. The thought and effort you put into it were very much appreciated by us all.

— Duncan, following a memorial service for his father, Edward

Operating throughout England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Channel Islands, we deliver authentic, tailor-made and heartfelt ceremonies for life’s key moments. They are always inclusive and welcoming, regardless of the beliefs of those attending.

You can trust Humanist Ceremonies celebrants: We are DBS-checked, fully insured, and regularly peer reviewed for quality assurance. We are committed to a code of conduct, and have a transparent and robust complaints process in the rare case of a problem. We all pay a monthly fee to Humanists UK to further support the work of the charity, and are part of a regional network for like-minded celebrants for support and learning.

Humanist funerals

Humanist funerals, memorials and ash ceremonies are a fitting way to honour a unique life with warmth, sensitivity and meaning, but without reference to religion or an afterlife. They put the story of the person who has died at the heart of the ceremony, paying tribute to them and the legacy they leave, and provide an opportunity to bring people together, not just to share sadness but to celebrate a life lived.
