Hi, I'm Brigid

Naming ceremonies are a way to celebrate the arrival of new family members and welcome them to the world.

Baby naming ceremonies – and other naming ceremonies – are fun affairs. They bring family and friends together to celebrate the arrival of a new addition: a baby, an older child or children, or maybe someone transitioning to a new gender.

We focus on the person or people being welcomed; often, all those present – parents and guideparents (or honorary aunts and uncles), grandparents, siblings and friends – pledge to support them in their lives and ambitions. Namings are often combined with another celebration, for example a birthday.

They can be held anywhere, indoors or outdoors, in hired venues or the family home or garden, whatever suits you and your guests.

I will work with you to craft a unique ceremony for your particular needs. I will help you choose any readings, symbolic gestures or music that would be perfect for you.

I’ll draft a script for your approval and then deliver it on the day, giving you a Presentation Script to keep afterwards as a reminder of the special rite of passage you have celebrated.

More about me

Living near the Gower Peninsula with its stunning scenery, I make the most of the great outdoors. I am a keen walker and I help with the annual Gower Walking Festival. I love my garden and volunteer regularly in Swansea's beautiful and historic Singleton Park. I love to read, cook, and go to the cinema.

Thank you for putting together the perfect naming ceremony for T and L. We have had so many people say how lovely and personal the ceremony was.

Brigid was so lovely and approachable and covered everything we wanted covering. The ceremony was just the right length and all the guests said how great it was. Thank you.

We really enjoyed the ceremony today. It was a lovely summing up of our family situation and felt so inclusive. Brigid’s delivery was perfectly paced, funny at times but also serious.

Brigid’s script had both light and shade. She has a warm and friendly tone and a winning smile. Everyone loved the ceremony and felt included.

We all pay a monthly fee to Humanists UK to further support the work of the charity, and are part of a regional network for like-minded celebrants for support and learning.

Humanist naming ceremonies

A humanist naming ceremony is a joyous event, and the perfect opportunity to gather friends and family to welcome your child into the world, with no reference to religion. It focuses on the child, their future and the circle of love and support around them, offering a sincere and personal alternative to a christening or other religious ceremony.
