Hi, I'm Brigid

I find it a privilege to help people mark key points in their lives, especially when they are facing the many challenges of bereavement.

From my former role teaching at Swansea University I have years of experience in organising events, public speaking, and interacting with people of all ages. I believe in the power of kindness.

Funerals and memorials bring family and friends together to celebrate the unique life of the person who has died.

I will work with you to craft a unique ceremony which is a true reflection of your loved one. The ceremony may be conducted at a crematorium, funeral parlour, or cemetery, or, in the case of a memorial ceremony, almost any location you choose.

At the heart of the ceremony will be the life story of your loved one. We will draw up the shape and content of the ceremony together. Family members and friends may wish to give tributes or readings, or, if you prefer, I can incorporate all your memories and anecdotes into an evocative and fitting eulogy to your loved one and lead the entire ceremony. I will give you a Presentation Copy (printout) of the ceremony script to keep as a lasting memorial, as well as a PDF (electronic copy) to share with anyone you choose as a lasting reminder of the day..

The ceremony is inclusive. You may want to include a period of quiet reflection, maybe with a slideshow and some music, where everyone present can be alone with their memories of the person who has died, and those who have faith can say a private prayer.

It is also possible to have a memorial ceremony before or after the actual burial or cremation. This is especially fitting if there has been a direct cremation, and can allow a longer space in which to bring people together for a celebration.

More about me

Living near the Gower Peninsula with its stunning scenery, I make the most of the great outdoors. I am a keen walker and I help with the annual Gower Walking Festival. I love my garden and volunteer regularly in Swansea's beautiful and historic Singleton Park. I love to read, cook, and go to the cinema.

Thank you so much, you were wonderful and we had so much positive feedback from everybody about the ceremony, they all thought you were so genuine and sincere.

Thank you Brigid. I have been hearing from friends who were unable to travel but were able to follow the memorial ceremony and they all said you conducted the service beautifully. We were all grateful for the calm way you led us through one of the most difficult times of our lives .

Thank you so much for your email and the presentation copy of the ceremony. I had many people come to me and say what a lovely ceremony it was and I think it will place many thoughts of what they would like when their time comes. Thank you again for everything.

I feel that your guidance and sensitivity helped make L's funeral and memorial just as she would have wanted; simple, but meaningful.

HUMANIST CEREMONIES™ is the network of more than 550 celebrants, trained by national charity Humanists UK to a gold standard to provide memorable and meaningful humanist ceremonies to non-religious people. Operating throughout England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Channel Islands, we deliver authentic, tailor-made and heartfelt ceremonies for life’s key moments. They are always inclusive and welcoming, regardless of the beliefs of those attending.

You can trust Humanist Ceremonies celebrants: We are DBS-checked, fully insured, and regularly peer reviewed for quality assurance. We are committed to a code of conduct, and have a transparent and robust complaints process in the rare case of a problem. We all pay a monthly fee to Humanists UK to further support the work of the charity, and are part of a regional network for like-minded celebrants for support and learning.

Humanist funerals

Humanist funerals, memorials and ash ceremonies are a fitting way to honour a unique life with warmth, sensitivity and meaning, but without reference to religion or an afterlife. They put the story of the person who has died at the heart of the ceremony, paying tribute to them and the legacy they leave, and provide an opportunity to bring people together, not just to share sadness but to celebrate a life lived.
