Hi, I'm Alex

Welcome to my Humanists UK profile. My name is Alex and I trained as a funeral celebrant in 2019, as a wedding celebrant in 2020, and in 2022 as a naming celebrant. I guess I've always been a humanist, but only really started to put a name to what I believe after attending my sister's wedding. It was just so them, and the loveliest, most relaxed wedding I'd ever been to! It was several years before I took the plunge and trained as a celebrant, but that summer afternoon definitely planted the idea in my subconscious... fast forward (ahem) 20 years, and I just knew I'd found my new path... and, since then, I've never looked back!

A friend asked me recently what made me want to become a celebrant. It’s very simple really – I love to tell stories. Being able to sit with a couple and hear about how they met and fell in love, or about their hopes for the future of their family – it is such a joy. I learn something from every story I tell, and each ceremony is different.

Helping you celebrate your relationship and tell your story in the way that works for you is one of the best things we get to do as celebrants. I love hearing your ideas for making your wedding sound and feel authentically you, and if I can help make it happen then I will! It's your day, and I want to help make it as special as it can possibly be. Whether that's a remote controlled car as a ring bearer or drinking gin and tonic from a quaich, I want to hear your ideas, so do get in touch and let's put together something as amazing and unique as you are. The possibilities really are endless!

One couple I married recently described my style as 'perfectly imperfect' and I think they got that absolutely spot on. I create down to earth, authentic ceremonies that suit your style.

Previously, my background was in community work, especially the area of food poverty and food justice where I've been a long time campaigner and set up and run a number of projects, from community meals, emergency COVID food provision and food hubs. I'm also always looking for ways to make my business more sustainable. While I am Cambridge-based, I'm happy to travel anywhere for a wedding! I am also a member of the queer community and part of LGBT Humanists. You can feel completely comfortable that I'll create the wedding you need, so let's get planning.

"Alex is one of a kind. Right from the beginning, we could tell she was the perfect choice for our wedding. She is warm, friendly, attentive, and immersed herself fully in our story. I felt like I had know her for years. The vows she wrote for us were so beautiful. She has a talent for the written word. We didn't think it could get better, but her delivery of those beautiful words on the day were so pitch perfect, and so full of life and energy, that she had everyone in the room in tears - including ourselves! Don't think twice, Alex is the person you want for your wedding. Trust me on this."

— Tess and Brian

“It was everything we wanted it to be, and we would recommend you to anyone!”

— Siobhan and Hugo

"Well, that’s certainly it the spot. You captured what we’re about perfectly. I’m in bits – I don’t know if I’ve got the strength to get my hair cut! It’s so very good."

— Anne and Steve

Humanist weddings

A humanist wedding ceremony is a wonderful option to celebrate your wedding in the way you choose: without religion but with meaning, and totally true to the two of you.
