Hi, I'm Alex

Welcome to my Humanists UK profile. My name is Alex and I trained as a funeral celebrant in 2019, as a wedding celebrant in 2020, and in 2022 as a naming celebrant. Previously, my background was in community work, especially the area of food poverty and food justice where I've been a long time campaigner and set up and run a number of projects, from community meals, emergency COVID food provision and food hubs. I'm also always looking for ways to make my business more sustainable.

I guess I've always been a humanist, but only really started to put a name to what I believe after attending my sister's wedding. It was just so them, and the loveliest, most relaxed wedding I'd ever been to! It was several years before I took the plunge and trained as a celebrant, but that summer afternoon definitely planted the idea in my subconscious... fast forward ten years, and I just knew I'd found my new path... and, since then, I've never looked back!

A friend asked me recently what made me want to become a celebrant. It’s very simple really – I love to tell stories. Being able to sit with a couple and hear about how they met and fell in love, or about their hopes for the future of their family – it is such a huge privilege. I learn something from every story I tell, and each ceremony is different.

Helping you celebrate your relationship in the way that works for you is one of the best things we get to do as celebrants. I love meeting up with couples to discuss their ceremony ideas, and if I can help make it happen then I will! It’s your day, and I want to help make it special. Whether means a remote controlled car as a ring bearer or drinking gin and tonic from a quaich, I want to hear your ideas, so do get in touch and let’s put together something as amazing and unique as you are. The possibilities really are endless...

I want all couples to feel safe with me, and am a strong and vocal LGBTQ+ ally. Whoever you are, you can feel completely comfortable that I’ll create the wedding that tells your story and reflects you as a couple.

“Well, that’s certainly it the spot. You captured what we’re about perfectly. I’m in bits – I don’t know if I’ve got the strength to get my hair cut! It’s so very good.” ~ from A & S
