Hi, I'm Rachael

Many people don’t know what a naming ceremony is. When I explain, it is more often agreed that it provides more choice than other more traditional ceremonies.

When you welcome a new person into your family, it is an occasion which should be tailored specifically to them, and one that should be joyful and memorable. That's exactly what happens at a Humanist naming ceremony! Imagine growing up and being told stories of those who came together to celebrate their place in this world, and of the appointment of supporting adults.

Unlike a traditional christening, your individual naming ceremony can be as unique as your child – or as your children!

As your trained and accredited Humanist Naming Celebrant, I will create and deliver your naming ceremony exactly as you wish to celebrate the arrival of your baby, for older children, adopted children or for children becoming blended and united into one family. Having delivered a naming ceremony for the first born of one couple, I was delighted that I have been invited back to deliver the naming of one family’s second child. I have also been asked to create and lead a ‘double’ naming ceremony, which was an absolute pleasure.

Ever keen to represent our diverse community, I also write and conduct ceremonies for trans or non-binary people, and for those who have legally changed their name and want to celebrate being known by a new name.

With a Humanist naming ceremony, you have the freedom to choose where you would like to hold your celebration and many families choose their garden, a local centre or nearby building that their child is familiar with or a local park.

Whatever your circumstances, I would be delighted to discuss your naming ceremony with you and to share ideas about how I can create a ceremony which is memorable and reflects those being named.

“So many people said what an amazing job you did of the ceremony. It was so lovely as you just clicked with everyone and it was so special to see. It was just perfect!

I cannot rate you highly enough Rachael, you were absolutely hands on throughout and wanted to help in any way you could. You have no idea how special you made the day.

Thank you so much X “

A Humanist naming ceremony can be held anywhere.

Many people choose to hold their naming ceremonies in their home or garden, in a local community hall where their child attends a baby or toddler group, a beach, a favourite park, zoo, a café, or anywhere you love as a family.

As a Humanist Celebrant based in East Anglia, I conduct naming ceremonies all over the country.

£550 for a weekday ceremony, £600 for weekend ceremonies and bank holidays.

I offer a discount to Blue Light Card holders, as a way of giving back to those who help others, so please mention if you carry one, when you get in touch.

Humanist naming ceremonies

A humanist naming ceremony is a joyous event, and the perfect opportunity to gather friends and family to welcome your child into the world, with no reference to religion. It focuses on the child, their future and the circle of love and support around them, offering a sincere and personal alternative to a christening or other religious ceremony.
