Humanist funeral ceremonies bring people together to celebrate life in a beautiful, healing, and heartfelt way.
Everyone who dies is a unique and irreplaceable individual. It is therefore only right that funerals reflect this uniqueness by capturing their character and life story in a warm, deeply personal and meaningful way. From reflective and emotional to uplifting and irreverent – or all of these things – I’ll work with families and friends to craft a poignant ceremony that is honest, genuine and fits the individual to a tee, while honouring their needs and wishes.
Of course funerals are challenging and sorrowful occasions, but they can also be wonderful, creative and life-affirming ones too, binding people together in recognition of the immense value of life and power of human connection.
Humanist funerals are appropriate for anyone without strong religious beliefs, and who want a ceremony that centres the person who has died, and which is welcoming and inclusive for everyone attending.
The beauty of humanist ceremonies is that they can be held anywhere you wish: at any venue, in your own home or at a special place outdoors. From simple and traditional to quirky and eccentric, there are no set rules or structures. Ceremonies can be rich, creative and varied in their words and symbols – including everything from live music to home videos. Whatever feels right to honour the memory of your loved one, I will try my best to make happen!
I’m highly sensitive to the reality that I will meet people in diverse circumstances, and with varying relationships to the person who has died. Families are complex (mine included!) and that’s okay. I’m very aware of this, and the subsequent importance of flexibility and adaptability in my approach. No matter the situation, we can work together to create a funeral ceremony that is fitting and feels just right.
