“Names are the sweetest and most important sound in any language.” — W.H. Auden

The names that have special meaning for us will always be the names of the people we love most.

Think of the care you took choosing your child’s name & how important it felt to get it right. Now you are watching them breathe life into their name developing their own wonderful sense of meaning and purpose.

Celebrating your child’s arrival into the world and into your family is super special. Perhaps they are joining a sibling or they are the start of your hoped-for family. Perhaps you didn’t get round to a Naming first time around so you want to share a ceremony between both or all your children now.

When it has been a difficult process to bring a child into your world, a Naming is not just a proclamation of joy but also of their safe arrival. It provides a firm foundation and an affirmation of their place in your lives. Maybe you are bringing two families together and you want to show your children your commitment to their future or you are adopting a child and this is the time to embrace them into your family.

I can help create that perfect moment with you – Make Moments Count!

Naming ceremonies are also good fun, a chance to create personalised symbolic actions for your child and bubbles everywhere! They are fabulous days out for the wider family to celebrate, to create memories, keepsakes and mementos. Inside, outside – anything is possible.

A naming is easy to put off but the pleasure you will get is surprisingly profound and joyous. If you are thinking about a naming ceremony don’t hesitate to give me a ring. I know it is important to find the right person– and an initial call does not bind you to anything.

Here is how it works:

Phone Call

Initial Meeting – in person or zoom

An Agreement and 1/3 deposit

Second meeting to plan the ceremony

Drafting the ceremony

Agreeing the ceremony

Final payment

The BIG DAY!

Mini-me: Music, dancing and going to festivals are a must. Artistic, creative – love writing your wedding stories, experienced public speaker and event host. Enjoy meeting people and hearing about their lives across all cultures, all genders & identities.  I cycle, do yoga, play sport, walk the dog, watch films, read in between hanging out with those who bring me joy - my grandchildren, my family and friends.

HUMANIST CEREMONIES™ is the network of more than 550 celebrants, trained by national charity Humanists UK to a gold standard to provide memorable and meaningful humanist ceremonies to non-religious people. Operating throughout England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Channel Islands, we deliver authentic, tailor-made and heartfelt ceremonies for life’s key moments. They are always inclusive and welcoming, regardless of the beliefs of those attending.

You can trust Humanist Ceremonies celebrants: We are DBS-checked, fully insured, and regularly peer reviewed for quality assurance. We are committed to a code of conduct, and have a transparent and robust complaints process in the rare case of a problem. We all pay a monthly fee to Humanists UK to further support the work of the charity, and are part of a regional network for like-minded celebrants for support and learning.

Humanist naming ceremonies

A humanist naming ceremony is a joyous event, and the perfect opportunity to gather friends and family to welcome your child into the world, with no reference to religion. It focuses on the child, their future and the circle of love and support around them, offering a sincere and personal alternative to a christening or other religious ceremony.
