Hi, I'm Kevin

For those who are not religious a humanist naming ceremony is the perfect way to welcome a baby or a child into the family and the wider community of friends.

Each naming ceremony is written specifically for that child. I meet face-to-face with the parents to discuss the type of ceremony they would like and to find out as much information as I can about them and the child who is to be named. I then write a draft script which can be worked on until it is exactly what is required.

There is scope for participation in the ceremony by family members and friends. I encourage parents to write their own commitments to their child. At most ceremonies guide-parents (the equivalent of godparents) also make commitments to the child. There can be music and any one of a number of symbolic acts if desired.

Naming ceremonies are appropriate for children of a wide range of ages – from new-born babies to teenagers. They can be held anywhere – in a family home or garden, in a hotel or other function room or anywhere indoors or out.

I have conducted namings in places as diverse as the rocks of Tintagel, the Lost Gardens of Heligan, Living Coasts Zoo and a wildlife park as well as homes, gardens and hotels.

If you would like to speak with me about a naming ceremony, do feel free to get in touch.

HUMANIST CEREMONIES™ is the network of more than 550 celebrants, trained by national charity Humanists UK to a gold standard to provide memorable and meaningful humanist ceremonies to non-religious people. Operating throughout England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Channel Islands, we deliver authentic, tailor-made and heartfelt ceremonies for life’s key moments. They are always inclusive and welcoming, regardless of the beliefs of those attending.

You can trust Humanist Ceremonies celebrants: We are DBS-checked, fully insured, and regularly peer reviewed for quality assurance. We are committed to a code of conduct, and have a transparent and robust complaints process in the rare case of a problem. We all pay a monthly fee to Humanists UK to further support the work of the charity, and are part of a regional network for like-minded celebrants for support and learning.

Humanist naming ceremonies

A humanist naming ceremony is a joyous event, and the perfect opportunity to gather friends and family to welcome your child into the world, with no reference to religion. It focuses on the child, their future and the circle of love and support around them, offering a sincere and personal alternative to a christening or other religious ceremony.
