I’m an experienced naming ceremony celebrant, trained and accredited by Humanists UK. I create and deliver personalised humanist naming ceremonies to celebrate the arrival of a new child or a change in a family in a way that fits you. I work closely with you to make the ceremony exactly what you want.
How it works
I am happy to have a chat with you before you decide whether this is the right kind of ceremony for you. You can ask questions and I can give you some more information before you make a final decision.
Once you have decided, I will send you some questions just to get you thinking about your ceremony and what you want to include in it. We then meet (online or face-to-face) to discuss the ceremony. I use your answers and our meeting to write a first draft. You can then suggest any changes until you are happy with the final version.
On the day, I arrive early to make sure everyone who is taking part in the ceremony is prepared.
After the ceremony I send you a presentation copy of the final script.
What can be included
The short answer is - anything you want!
You may want to make promises to your child - you can write these yourself or I can help you. You can choose guide parents - adults who have a special role in your child's life. They may want to read a poem, read from a favourite book, or sing a song. Guideparents may also want to make promises. You can also involve wider family and friends in your ceremony, including other children.
Is it only for babies?
Not at all. A Humanist Naming Ceremony can be for newborn babies, for older children, or a combination of both. It can be for celebrating the blending of two families, for an adoption or for a renaming. I will always try and help find the right ceremony and celebrant for you, whatever you are celebrating.
