Being a Naming Celebrant is a very special privilege - and I still love this job ten years on. Naming and Welcoming ceremonies are heartwarming, unique and celebratory events – providing a non-religious and meaningful alternative to a christening or baptism.
The arrival of a baby or the adoption of a child of any age, is a joyous, life-changing and exciting time in the lives of the family who are welcoming them. With a Humanist ceremony, the arrival of a child is celebrated in a really memorable and personalised way. It can even be combined with a partnership ceremony, a wedding or perhaps a renewal of vows. It can include music, readings, symbolic acts and contributions from friends and family members. It usually incorporates loving promises or commitments to the child from their parent/s and chosen guideparents (the non-religious version of godparents!). Other names are sometimes used for a child's supporting adults, such as: guardians, mentors, sparents (spare parents!) or I've even had even 'oddparents' instead of godparents!
Please do get in touch if you would like to discuss a Naming or Welcoming ceremony for your child/children. I’m always happy to meet face to face to plan the ceremony - the best way to ensure that when I conduct it, it is tailor-made and just right for you, your child and those who’ll be in attendance.
Give me a call or send me a text or email, to arrange an initial chat, so that I can answer any questions you might have, with no obligation, before you make a decision.
