Hi, I'm Hannah

It may sound an odd thing to say, but I really enjoy leading funerals. I've taken more than 1100 now, and every single time I'm struck by how lucky I am, to have had someone's life story entrusted to me, and to be part of helping their family and friends say goodbye the way they want to.

You might want to see someone off with a blast of punk rock or a pork pie on top of the casket - it doesn't matter as long as it's right for them and for you! My job is to take what you tell me about the person you've lost and create a ceremony that gives you the space to share tears, smiles, often laughter too, with the others who are missing them - and it is genuinely a joy to help in some small way with the work of grief that you may be going through.

So whatever you need, however you want to create a way of marking your loss but also celebrating the person you are missing, I'm here to listen and to help make it happen.

I'm here to help if you are planning your own funeral too - it's a particular privilege to hear that life story from the person who lived it, or to hold safe some special message for loved ones once the time has come.

Hannah recently conducted my Mum's funeral ceremony. The eulogy that Hannah delivered was wonderful. She took copious notes when we were retelling Mum's life and translated them into a wonderful story. Her delivery, perfect. We laughed and we cried. Just as it should be when celebrating the life of someone you love.

Hannah created a beautiful tribute for our much loved Mum. She conducted the service with sincerity and warmth and had clearly put a great deal of effort into the eulogy on our behalf, word perfect and clearly spoken. Can’t praise Hannah enough and wouldn’t hesitate in recommending her to anyone seeking 100% perfection.

Do not hesitate - from the moment we met her Hannah was impeccable. She made an important day very special.

HUMANIST CEREMONIES™ is the network of more than 550 celebrants, trained by national charity Humanists UK to a gold standard to provide memorable and meaningful humanist ceremonies to non-religious people. Operating throughout England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Channel Islands, we deliver authentic, tailor-made and heartfelt ceremonies for life’s key moments. They are always inclusive and welcoming, regardless of the beliefs of those attending.

You can trust Humanist Ceremonies celebrants: We are DBS-checked, fully insured, and regularly peer reviewed for quality assurance. We are committed to a code of conduct, and have a transparent and robust complaints process in the rare case of a problem. We all pay a monthly fee to Humanists UK to further support the work of the charity, and are part of a regional network for like-minded celebrants for support and learning.

Humanist funerals

Humanist funerals, memorials and ash ceremonies are a fitting way to honour a unique life with warmth, sensitivity and meaning, but without reference to religion or an afterlife. They put the story of the person who has died at the heart of the ceremony, paying tribute to them and the legacy they leave, and provide an opportunity to bring people together, not just to share sadness but to celebrate a life lived.
