Hi, I'm Debbie

Saying goodbye to someone you love is so terribly hard. A humanist funeral or memorial service can be a deeply moving celebration of an individual’s life.

I will work with you to create a dignified and meaningful ceremony. This will be a reflection of your loved one’s life and also right for you and your family.

I have a background in Social Work and many years experience of working with older people and their families.

Debbie was brilliant not just on the day but the meeting to liaise with my brother and I. The amount of information Debbie gathered to collect all the interesting and life affirming facts about Mum and the story weaved from our conversation was incredible. It really helped that Debbie was so supportive and skilled in dealing with people whose emotions were running high. It really has helped with the grieving process as well. Just a very good experience and I would not hesitate to recommend Debbie to anyone that needs a celebrant.

Debbie was supportive, informative and empathetic from our first meeting to the day of the funeral and on the day was responsible for making my Mother's funeral an absolutely perfect occasion.

Debbie was very kind and friendly when we first met her, and throughout all of our correspondence with her. She conducted my friends funeral with great respect and dignity, with a real sense of compassion for the sensitivity of our grief and sadness.

Debbie was everything we needed in a celebrant, especially as we’d had a very traumatic and difficult few weeks. She was so warm and kind, as well as really taking the time to listen to our stories and memories of my Dad, sensitive to both our smiles and tears. Debbie captured my Dad's personality perfectly within the service and we were very pleased with how it went. We received many compliments from family and friends on the service too. Thank you so much Debbie. You are a very special person to do what you do.

I had been to a funeral where Debbie Martin was the celebrant and when my mother-in-law passed away, Debbie was my first choice as celebrant for her funeral. Debbie was absolutely amazing. She came to our home to discuss arrangements for the funeral and spent a long time listening and understanding what the family wanted for the funeral. Debbie was very careful and thorough to find out about my mother-in-law’s life and wrote a beautiful service for her. She was very patient and allowed the family to add their own contributions to the service on the lead up to the funeral. Debbie liaised really well on our behalf with the funeral director and was amazing on the day. Debbie was very organised and professional, she greeted the family at the crematorium and made sure we were all comfortable and seated in good time. She conducted the whole ceremony, including reading the poems and family tributes as we did not feel able to speak at the funeral ourselves. Debbie’s service suited our needs perfectly as she was sincere without being over sentimental. Exactly what the family wanted. All of the family were extremely moved by the ceremony and commented on how Debbie had helped us through a very difficult day and shown real compassion. I am incredibly grateful for the care she gave our family and helped us through a really challenging time.

I can honestly say that the warmth, tone and sensitive way in which Debbie conducted my 98 year old mother's funeral...has left all of us calm and , actually, smiling. Everyone who attended the funeral, both family and friends agreed that she led it in such a way that we relaxed and knew our mother would have really liked her. I cannot thank her enough for turning a day I was dreading into one that I look back on with a smile and warmth.

Debbie was a wonderful celebrant and would highly recommend her. wonderfully attentive, sensitive and emotionally aware.

Humanist funerals

Humanist funerals, memorials and ash ceremonies are a fitting way to honour a unique life with warmth, sensitivity and meaning, but without reference to religion or an afterlife. They put the story of the person who has died at the heart of the ceremony, paying tribute to them and the legacy they leave, and provide an opportunity to bring people together, not just to share sadness but to celebrate a life lived.
