Hi, I'm David

A naming ceremony is a beautiful way to introduce a new member of your family to your wider family and friends, and declare commitments for your role in their life, happiness and future. Usually this will be a new baby or toddler, but perhaps you have adopted a child, or have a family member who now goes by a different name or gender.

Celebrate this with your family and most valued friends, who will be their extended network for comfort, inspiration, education and support. Also, some people may agree to play an extra special role in their life, as godparents or 'guide parents', and this is worth celebrating too.

Naming ceremonies can be held at any place of your choosing: outdoors in the woods, on a beach, in a garden … or indoors, perhaps at home, in a pub or hotel.

Ceremonies last 20 - 30 poignant, joyous, emotional minutes. Each script is unique, personal, and written according to your story, what your child means to you and your family and your hopes and aspirations for their future.

Working closely with you I will design, style and choreograph the ceremony, help you choose poems, readings and music that mean something to you, and usually a symbolic gesture to mark the moment and memory. You will also receive a keepsake copy of the script.

Just a wee thank you for your passion writing Saoirse’s naming ceremony. It meant the world to us and you made it every bit how we hoped, and more.

We all pay a monthly fee to Humanists UK to further support the work of the charity, and are part of a regional network for like-minded celebrants for support and learning.

Humanist naming ceremonies

A humanist naming ceremony is a joyous event, and the perfect opportunity to gather friends and family to welcome your child into the world, with no reference to religion. It focuses on the child, their future and the circle of love and support around them, offering a sincere and personal alternative to a christening or other religious ceremony.
