I have led humanist and non-religious weddings since 2002. I have trained others to run humanist weddings too.
Weddings can be joyously hilarious - full of fun and laughter. Sometimes, they are quieter, more intimate and tender. Whatever kind of ceremony you want, I will design it with you so your wedding reflects the two of you and the values you hold dear.
The first wedding I conducted was for a good friend and her husband in her grandmother's garden in Somerset. I have also run my own family's weddings—for my nephew and his wife in Clapton and for my niece and their wife in Uxbridge. I have also led weddings for fellow humanist celebrants (which is always touching).
The furthest I have travelled to lead a wedding was Latvia; the highest was at the top of the Gherkin in London. The most mobile? On a Thames River Boat from the South Bank to Chiswick.
I love humanist weddings - the vows form the central part of the ceremony, and the binding promises one person makes to another are so personal and precious. Unlike a priest who seems to occupy centre stage, I position myself to the side, so the couple remain the focus. I help those giving readings, or taking part in the ceremony in other ways, so they feel confident and make the most of the moment. I include handfasting and glass crushing if these reflect what the couple wants or their cultural heritage.
And don't worry about inviting me to the celebrations afterwards - no-one really wants to talk to the vicar!
