Celebrating families – in all their shapes and sizes!
Centred around your hopes and dreams for your child, whatever their age, naming and welcoming ceremonies are joyous and fun celebrations of new life, family and community – where everyone can take part. They are the perfect way to celebrate new life or mark a new beginning. For newborns or toddlers they are often combined with a birthday party, but they don't have to be limited to young children – they can be held whenever you are ready and wherever you choose.
I love working with families of all shapes and sizes, creating ceremonies that really resonate with your own family traditions and vibe. Getting everyone involved can bring extra meaning to your ceremony – and there are many different ways we can include people in the proceedings. We can include a ceremonial element, from a wish box, to a book signing. Or perhaps play a part in some thumb print art as a lovely reminder of the day.
Naming ceremonies really are a joyful and uplifting experience – I absolutely love doing them, and they can create some lovely memories for your child as they grow up (wish boxes or books can be an especially nice touch that and something everyone can join in with). There’s also the opportunity to add a few other fun elements if there are other small children present, so everyone has the best time.
It’s fun to end on a high note, so at the end of the ceremony I invite everyone to join in the naming itself. This is also the moment where all of your gathered friends and family repeat their commitment to support your child. It can be fun to mark this part of the ceremony with blowing bubbles or waving flags. Yay!
