Hi, I'm Sue

Congratulations! If you’re reading this you must be a newly (or about-to-be) engaged couple. You’ve reached an important life milestone, recognising that life is infinitely better when shared with someone you love and who loves you back.

I’m a humanist wedding celebrant, which means I conduct non-religious ceremonies that are full of love, kindness, fun and joy; celebrating your love, and the loving bonds that connect you to your guests.

I welcome the opportunity to work with people from diverse cultural backgrounds and sexual orientation. All are welcome here! Love is love and should be celebrated.

My job is to tease out that story and work with you to craft a truly meaningful and magical ceremony. Each ceremony is written from scratch as each couple is unique and has a different story to tell.

You might want a same-sex wedding or civil partnership, you could be a young couple formalising a commitment, or a couple who want to renew wedding vows. Whatever camp you fall into, I’m here to be your wedding Sherpa, guiding you through to the moment you say your vows and are showered with confetti.

It's both a pleasure and a privilege to work so closely with couples to help shape their special day. My process is relaxed, collaborative, inclusive and fun and can be a welcome relief from the other (sometimes stressful) aspects of organising a wedding. More details on my process can be found on my website.

I aim to create a genuine connection with my couples. This makes our collaboration more open and ultimately pays off in creating a wedding ceremony that is about you, your relationship, and that reflects your values and style.

Our guests commented on how personal the ceremony was. So much of that is down to the time, energy and care that Sue put into creating, developing and perfecting the script. She really took the time to get to know us and what we wanted out of our day. She incorporated all the strange requests (a quiz, a packet of Hula Hoops) and ran with it. While also making sure that there were moments of reflection on what love means to us, for people with us and those who could not be. Not to mention being entirely unphased by a wasp buzzing round her ear!

HUMANIST CEREMONIES™ is the network of more than 550 celebrants, trained by national charity Humanists UK to a gold standard to provide memorable and meaningful humanist ceremonies to non-religious people. Operating throughout England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Channel Islands, we deliver authentic, tailor-made and heartfelt ceremonies for life’s key moments. They are always inclusive and welcoming, regardless of the beliefs of those attending.

You can trust Humanist Ceremonies celebrants: We are DBS-checked, fully insured, and regularly peer reviewed for quality assurance. We are committed to a code of conduct, and have a transparent and robust complaints process in the rare case of a problem. We all pay a monthly fee to Humanists UK to further support the work of the charity, and are part of a regional network for like-minded celebrants for support and learning.

Humanist weddings

A humanist wedding ceremony is a wonderful option to celebrate your wedding in the way you choose: without religion but with meaning, and totally true to the two of you. They are uplifting and heartwarming occasions, personal to each couple to reflect your personalities and interests, and your love story. Sincere and significant, your ceremony will be crafted to create an occasion which is unique and fitting to you both.
