Hi, I'm Steve
Non-religious funerals that are individual, meaningful and memorable
My name is Steve Church – admittedly a possibly inappropriate name for a humanist celebrant!
I’m an experienced and fully trained funeral celebrant, accredited by Humanists UK.
My focus is to give family and friends a ceremony that is personal and bespoke to the memory of the deceased.
People are unique. Their funerals should be too.
People aren’t created through a process of ‘copy & paste’, so neither should their ceremonies.
Have you recently lost a family member of friend?
Are you looking for a humanist, non-religious celebrant to conduct the funeral?
Then I’m sure I can help.
Ask me to conduct your ceremony and you’ll receive –
- a compassionate ‘listening’ approach.
- a family meeting in your home to discuss how you’d like your ceremony to work. We’ll discuss the tribute, the music, readings, contributions from family members or friends, the committal – in fact, everything you need to make the ceremony run smoothly for the benefit of everyone present.
- a ceremony that is tailor-made for you and conducted with clarity and sensitivity.
- a beautifully presented printed copy of the tribute for you to keep as a memento.
In short, your ceremony will be memorable – it will help you, your friends and your family through this difficult - yet vital part of the grieving process.

Here's what a few families have had to say about the funerals I've conducted -
Dear Steve – Thank you very much for conducting my dear husband, Tony’s funeral service and being able to put into words the fine tribute, which he truly deserved. The family and friends who attended were all able to remember the happy times they had shared with Tony. Friends of different religions were brought together in a Humanist service to say ‘goodbye’ to a much loved and respected gentleman. It was what we, as a family, and Tony, wanted. The family join me in thanking you for your kindness, guidance and support at such a sad time. – Jean A. December 2018

Now that the dust has settled we want to thank you for your wonderful contribution to the funeral of our father. We received many compliments regarding the style and tone of the service you organised and we as a family especially found your guidance throughout the planning and preparation invaluable.
— Bob Evans
Stephen - just a note to say 'thank you' for the lovely funeral for Pepi on Friday. It meant so much to the family. It was as though you knew Pepi yourself. The way you spoke about him was perfect. Thank you again.
— Sarah F.
It was our honour to have Stephen as the Funeral Celebrant for my Mum's funeral. He possesses a lovely ability to put you at ease and his talent for creating a beautiful service is second to none. The service was beautiful and Stephen\'s delivery was just right. I highly recommend him.
— Julie Futcher
Respectful, compassionate, professional, aura of kindness, calming and comforting. Very empathic and considerate of the loss of our mum. We were very appreciative of his support at a very difficult time. He helped give a loving send off to a wonderful lady. There were many compliments from our guests saying that Steve caught the loving of nature of our family just right.

Humanist funerals
Humanist funerals, memorials and ash ceremonies are a fitting way to honour a unique life with warmth, sensitivity and meaning, but without reference to religion or an afterlife. They put the story of the person who has died at the heart of the ceremony, paying tribute to them and the legacy they leave, and provide an opportunity to bring people together, not just to share sadness but to celebrate a life lived.
