Hi, I'm Sarah-Louise

I'm delighted that you are considering a Humanist ceremony - and even more so that you've found your way to me!

Whether you’re newly engaged, you’ve been planning your wedding for some time, or you’re hoping to renew your vows – congratulations!

You may already know that you don't want a religious ceremony. But perhaps you’d like something more flexible and personal than a typical civil ceremony. A celebration that feels authentic, meaningful, and completely custom-made for you.

Well, you’ve come to just the right place, because that’s exactly what I do.

I specialise in crafting and conducting beautifully bespoke wedding ceremonies for couples who are looking for something a bit different.

It doesn’t matter whether you think of yourselves as Humanists or not: I’d love to help you find just the right blend of elements to create a ceremony that reflects your values, your love, your wishes for your marriage and your future life together. The beauty of a Humanist ceremony is that there is no set formula; I will work closely with you to understand how your love can best be celebrated and how I can help you reflect who you are.

Your ceremony can include any combination of traditional and more offbeat features. Classic and dignified… quirky and playful… relaxed and low-key – what’s right is what works for you!

Together we will set the tone, craft the content and create the atmosphere that are perfect for you – and I can provide as much or as little guidance as you need.

I love ceremony and ritual, especially as a way to mark special moments and transitions in our lives. And I think we should be able to enjoy them without needing to make promises to anyone or anything other than ourselves and our loved ones. I believe that words and stories have awesome power to make us think, explore and express our emotions. That’s why I decided to become a Humanist celebrant.

Me in a few words:

I am loyal, calm, thoughtful, with a wicked (and often pretty dark) sense of humour.

I love reading, writing, poetry, walking, and cooking curries. I am also *music-obsessed* and have a thing for rabbits.

I live in Sussex, near the Surrey and Kent borders and the beautiful Ashdown Forest, with my husband, children and our bunnies.

If you think I might be the celebrant for you – or if you have any questions – please get in touch!

"Sarah came up with the most beautifully worded ceremony that was so personal and our guests still comment on it now. It really was like no ceremony they had attended before and was so special."

— K & D, Sussex

"You were incredible, Sarah! A has talked about you ever since she found you!"

— Clare (bride's sister), Shropshire

"Our guests all commented on what a personal ceremony it was.

Sarah put in so much attention to detail - she even trained our dog to come to the front to bring our wedding rings!"

— J & D, Kent

Sarah was absolutely incredible from the very beginning and created the most perfect, unique ceremony for us. It was amazing, and we couldn’t be more grateful. So many of our family and friends commented on how wonderful the ceremony was and how it perfectly captured our story.

— L & M, Cotswolds

Where I work

I am based in East Grinstead, very close to the border of West and East Sussex, Surrey and Kent, I love to work with local venues as much as possible, for environmental reasons, and because I think it’s really valuable to support local businesses and build long-lasting relationships with the fabulous wedding suppliers nearby. But if you are further afield and really like the sound of me, please get in touch and I'll see what I can do.

You can trust Humanist Ceremonies celebrants: We are DBS-checked, fully insured, and regularly peer reviewed for quality assurance. We are committed to a code of conduct, and have a transparent and robust complaints process in the rare case of a problem. We all pay a monthly fee to Humanists UK to further support the work of the charity, and are part of a regional network for like-minded celebrants for support and learning.
