Hi, I'm Richard

I trained as a celebrant with Humanists UK as I feel very strongly that everyone should have a funeral during which their family and friends can reflect on and celebrate their life.

For those of us with no religious beliefs, Humanist funerals offer a way for us to remember our loved ones and to say farewell, in a very personal way, without the often irrelevant aspects of a religious service. I'm sure many of us have experienced attending funerals where the name of the deceased is hardly mentioned as the formal religious ceremony overwhelms all other considerations. I work with the family & friends to ensure the deceased is at the centre of the whole ceremony.

I have been lucky in my career to have worked across the world, and to meet many wonderful people who, like me, did not have a religion. I hope to be able to bring that experience to your funeral planning and to ensure that the ceremony is professional, friendly & a true celebration of the life of your loved one.

"Thankyou for your calm, professional & sympathetic help”

— Katy

" I will always be grateful for the way you helped us in giving our Mum the farewell that we wanted & she deserved”

— Jill

” Thanks for the lovely way you conducted the ceremony – Everyone said how well it went ”

"Thank you for your support during this difficult time. We appreciated all the technical help, as well as your advice.

The day ran smoothly and so respectfully, my father can rest at peace."

— Stephanie

HUMANIST CEREMONIES™ is the network of more than 550 celebrants, trained by national charity Humanists UK to a gold standard to provide memorable and meaningful humanist ceremonies to non-religious people. Operating throughout England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Channel Islands, we deliver authentic, tailor-made and heartfelt ceremonies for life’s key moments. They are always inclusive and welcoming, regardless of the beliefs of those attending.

You can trust Humanist Ceremonies celebrants: We are DBS-checked, fully insured, and regularly peer reviewed for quality assurance. We are committed to a code of conduct, and have a transparent and robust complaints process in the rare case of a problem. We all pay a monthly fee to Humanists UK to further support the work of the charity, and are part of a regional network for like-minded celebrants for support and learning.

Humanist funerals

Humanist funerals, memorials and ash ceremonies are a fitting way to honour a unique life with warmth, sensitivity and meaning, but without reference to religion or an afterlife. They put the story of the person who has died at the heart of the ceremony, paying tribute to them and the legacy they leave, and provide an opportunity to bring people together, not just to share sadness but to celebrate a life lived.
