Hi, I'm Marian

I'm Marian and I live in Pinner, North West London. .

I had a very fulfilling career as a nurse for 30 years, during which I had dealings with many families. I am compassionate in nature and am a good listener. I have spent time with people who have experienced bereavement, and I feel that I have the skills to gather information and anecdotes accurately. I want to create a meaningful tribute and celebration of life for people who do not have religion as a central part of their lives. Humanism is a positive commitment to make the best of the one life we have - for our own sake and to benefit others. It is important to have and to demonstrate a high and sincere regard for others.

I value good client-centred customer service and will therefore do my best to create a ceremony which is tailor-made to meet your wishes.

I am open to including a variety of poetry, literature and favourite song lyrics in my tributes and use them, along with an account of their life story, to compose a very personal tribute, which celebrates the life of your loved one.

In recent years, due to Covid 19, there has been a reduction in funeral services in crematoria. People sought alternatives when they were unable to gather in large numbers and now, many choose the option of a direct cremation for their loved one, and gather at a later date for a celebration of their life. These celebrations of life take the form of tributes being read to family and friends at a favoured location either indoors or outside. I have delivered services in woodland settings, in pubs, care-homes and alongside rivers. I am happy to facilitate a non- religious service of your choice, which is relevant and best reflects the life your loved one has led.

Dear Marian,

We wanted to say a heartfelt thank you for delivering the most beautiful service yesterday. Your words at the graveside and the rosemary sprigs were so lovely as well and our family were commenting on how nice the service was.

We really felt that we were in your safe hands and we could be in the moment without any worries at all.

We are so grateful to you for helping to make it the most perfect day in memory of our lovely dad.

Thank you so much again for everything.

With our kindest regards,

— Amanda and Andrew

Dear Marian

I’ve been meaning to write to you since the funeral last week so my apologies that this is somewhat delayed. I wanted to thank you most sincerely for conducting our service for Mum. As I believe I told you when we first spoke, we had considered doing the service ourselves as we knew there would only be the four of us and we didn’t think we would need anyone. But we know we made absolutely the right decision for us and for Mum in asking you to help us - your kind, thoughtful words and calmness made the service more dignified and meaningful than we could ever have managed on our own, and one that we shall always remember. Once again, our sincere thanks.

— Sheila

HUMANIST CEREMONIES™ is the network of more than 550 celebrants, trained by national charity Humanists UK to a gold standard to provide memorable and meaningful humanist ceremonies to non-religious people. Operating throughout England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Channel Islands, we deliver authentic, tailor-made and heartfelt ceremonies for life’s key moments. They are always inclusive and welcoming, regardless of the beliefs of those attending.

You can trust Humanist Ceremonies celebrants: We are DBS-checked, fully insured, and regularly peer reviewed for quality assurance. We are committed to a code of conduct, and have a transparent and robust complaints process in the rare case of a problem. We all pay a monthly fee to Humanists UK to further support the work of the charity, and are part of a regional network for like-minded celebrants for support and learning.

Humanist funerals

Humanist funerals, memorials and ash ceremonies are a fitting way to honour a unique life with warmth, sensitivity and meaning, but without reference to religion or an afterlife. They put the story of the person who has died at the heart of the ceremony, paying tribute to them and the legacy they leave, and provide an opportunity to bring people together, not just to share sadness but to celebrate a life lived.
