Humanist Ceremonies are about marking all the important moments in life, and that doesn’t stop at weddings and funerals. A humanist naming ceremony can be a beautiful and meaningful way to mark a milestone – whether that is welcoming a new child into your family, or marking a name change for any other reason.
Holding a humanist naming ceremony for a child is a great way to celebrate your child if you’re non-religious, and over the years my clients have held these for many different reasons. A humanist ceremony can bring together a family; it can help you to thank your village for their support on your journey to becoming parents; it can help an older adopted child to feel cherished and welcomed by their new family; or it can just be a really fun party. Whatever your reasons for wanting to mark an addition to your family with a naming ceremony, I’d like to hear from you.
Naming ceremonies were my first introduction to humanist celebrancy, and they still hold a very special place in my heart. There are no rules in a naming ceremony, so I work with my clients to make their every wish come true, whether that includes a mid-ceremony bouncy castle break, a live video link with relatives abroad, a group sing-song or anything else – if you have a special idea to make your day perfect, let’s chat!
It’s never too late to hold a naming ceremony, and there’s no rule that says you can’t hold one for yourself either – so if you have an older child who would appreciate a day that’s just for them, or you are changing your own name or identity for any reason, please get in touch to discuss your ideas. I’m confident we can create magic together.
