I'm Louise, and I have worked as a humanist celebrant since 2017.
If you're planning a funeral for someone you love, I will work with you to create a ceremony that will honour them in your own unique way. All of my ceremonies are written from scratch, following my meetings and correspondence with families, meaning that the words you hear on the day will be special and honest, reflecting the life of your loved one in a meaningful way.
The reason I became a humanist celebrant is because I love being able to help people to tell their stories at important moments in life. I had been to my share of impersonal and cold ceremonies, and I knew that I wanted to do better. My aim for all of my ceremonies is to make them warm, real and welcoming.
I am a lifelong humanist, having officially put a name to my beliefs when I studied Philosophy at Leeds University. While all of my ceremonies by nature are non-religious, humanism is an inclusive philosophy, meaning that if you'd like to include moments for silent prayer, or arrange for family or friends to share some content which contains some religious sentiment, that is fine. I will not lead any prayers myself, as I am non-religious, and I do not feel that that would be respectful to others' beliefs. I'm happy to discuss your specific requests.
Alongside funerals, I am happy to lead any celebration of life ceremonies, memorials, or ash scattering ceremonies. Two of my grandparents were scattered at sea, and so this is something that is particularly meaningful for me.
Finding a celebrant to work with is always a challenge at such a difficult time, so please feel free to reach out for a chat to see whether you think I would be a good fit for your needs.
