My name is Lisa Sharpe, and I’m a Funeral Celebrant with Humanists UK. I’m based in Swadlincote in Derbyshire, and I’m always happy to travel across both the East and West Midlands to support families when they need it most. My decision to become a celebrant came from experiencing loss myself. I learned first-hand how important it is for a funeral to feel personal, comforting, and true to the individual. A funeral doesn’t have to be religious or sombre from start to finish; it can also be a genuine celebration of a life well lived, filled with stories, memories, warmth, and even moments of gentle humour.
If you choose me to officiate a funeral for your loved one, I will meet with you—and any family members or friends you wish to include—to learn as much as possible about the person you are honouring. These conversations help me build a full picture of their character, their values, their quirks, and the moments that made them who they were. From this, I will write a bespoke tribute that reflects their life authentically and respectfully. You will always have the opportunity to read the tribute in advance, suggest changes, and ensure it feels exactly right.
You are welcome to include readings, poems, or personal contributions from family and friends. If you need help choosing something meaningful, I can offer suggestions tailored to the tone you want. Music is another important part of a ceremony, and together we can select pieces that feel fitting—whether they are reflective, uplifting, or simply favourites of your loved one. After the ceremony, you will receive a presentation copy of the tribute to keep and treasure.
In addition to funerals, I also officiate Interments of Ashes, Memorials, Natural Burials, and I offer Pre‑planned Funerals for those who wish to shape their ceremony in advance. Whatever form the ceremony takes, my role is to guide you gently through the process, support you in making choices that feel right, and ensure everything runs smoothly on the day.
Ultimately, the funeral is your ceremony—a space to say goodbye in a way that feels personal, meaningful, and true to the life being remembered. I am here to help you create that moment with care, compassion, and respect.
