Hi, I'm Kirsty

I'm a humanist funeral celebrant based in Cambridge, delivering personal ceremonies with care and empathy.

My journey to becoming a celebrant started with my own experience of bereavement. It was a humanist ceremony that showed me the positive impact a funeral can have when it’s done right. Many years later, I’m honoured to be able to help others remember and pay tribute to their loved ones in a way that’s right for them.

As a humanist, I believe that our actions and our relationships with other people are what matter most. And since every person is unique, no two humanist ceremonies will be exactly the same either. This is what makes them so special.

If you choose me as your celebrant, I’ll work with you to build a picture of your loved one: the life they led, the bonds they shared with others, and the things that made them who they were – quirks and all.

Together, we’ll create a personal ceremony including music, readings or symbolic actions that are important to you, and I’ll help guide you if you’re not sure what approach to take.

I can help with:

- Funerals, including cremations, traditional burials and natural burials.

- Memorials and Celebrations of Life, at a venue of your choice.

- Interments or scattering of ashes.

- Pre-funeral planning, for those wishing to leave a record of their wishes for their loved ones.

My background

I originally trained as a journalist before working in charity communications for several years. Across my career, I’ve met and interviewed people from all walks of life, and I’m privileged to have been trusted to tell their stories. This background also gave me invaluable experience of working with people who were going through some of the most difficult times of their life.

I’ve always been a humanist, although I didn’t always identify as one! For me, humanism is about more than the absence of a religious faith: it’s a positive world view that emphasises the importance of treating others with kindness and empathy, and of looking after the world around us.

I live in Cambridge, where I grew up, and can deliver funerals in Cambridgeshire and the surrounding areas. As well as delivering ceremonies, I also work as a copywriter, specialising in communications for charities.

If you’d like to know more about me or to talk about your needs, just get in touch using the contact details on the right.

Thank you so much for everything. You did a wonderful job on the day and throughout, helping to make a very difficult time feel as easy as possible.

Kirsty showed excellent and empathetic listening skills to produce a wonderful tribute to Dad. A number of people commented on how personal it felt.

— G's son

I was very impressed with the tribute that Kirsty wrote for us. She completely understood the vibe that we were going for. The service was delivered in such a sincere and thoughtful way. We honestly couldn’t have hoped for a better funeral and would highly recommend her.

HUMANIST CEREMONIES™ is the network of more than 550 celebrants, trained by national charity Humanists UK to a gold standard to provide memorable and meaningful humanist ceremonies to non-religious people. Operating throughout England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Channel Islands, we deliver authentic, tailor-made and heartfelt ceremonies for life’s key moments. They are always inclusive and welcoming, regardless of the beliefs of those attending.

You can trust Humanist Ceremonies celebrants: We are DBS-checked, fully insured, and regularly peer reviewed for quality assurance. We are committed to a code of conduct, and have a transparent and robust complaints process in the rare case of a problem. We all pay a monthly fee to Humanists UK to further support the work of the charity, and are part of a regional network for like-minded celebrants for support and learning.

Humanist funerals

Humanist funerals, memorials and ash ceremonies are a fitting way to honour a unique life with warmth, sensitivity and meaning, but without reference to religion or an afterlife. They put the story of the person who has died at the heart of the ceremony, paying tribute to them and the legacy they leave, and provide an opportunity to bring people together, not just to share sadness but to celebrate a life lived.
