Hi, I'm Jess

Thanks for popping by to see what I’m all about.

Me in a nutshell:

I am: Friendly, warm, reassuring, professional

I love: Hiking, especially in my local Yorkshire Dales

A good book, a trip to the theatre or ballet, a good drama series on TV

Catching up with friends old and new

I’ve been a Humanist wedding celebrant since 2022 and, having done many different jobs over my working life so far, (journalism, PR, event management, marketing etc), I can’t think of one that has given me more pleasure. What could be better than playing a small part in someone’s ‘Best Day of my Life’ moment!

My job is to make sure your ceremony, whether it’s to celebrate your marriage, a vow renewal, or a civil partnership, isn’t just something to get through before the party begins. My ceremony, uniquely created for you and with you, will be a real highlight of the day.

There’s so much to think about when planning a wedding, it might come as a relief to know that I can make things that much easier for you by guiding you through the creation of a ceremony that’s just the way you want it.

You can go down a traditional route, or introduce all sorts of elements that are special and meaningful to you: your own promises and rituals (these could be family or cultural traditions), guest participation, songs, toasts, music during the ceremony. Nothing is ‘not allowed’ . I’ve got lots of suggestions and a whole library of readings if you’re stuck for ideas. Together we can create a ceremony that incorporates all the things you ever dreamed of.

I’m perfectly comfortable in just about any setting (outdoors, from a campsite to a garden, indoors from a marquee to the most lavish of surroundings) and with any number of guests, from an elopement-style ceremony with just three of us to literally hundreds.

Since you’ve found your way to my page, you’ll know you’re looking at a Humanist option for your wedding. You might share my world view, or you just might feel uncomfortable at the thought of a church wedding, if you’re not religious; or a registrar-led ceremony, which is rather impersonal and definitely not bespoke!

We Humanists are of course known to be non-religious but what sets us apart from other non-religious celebrants is that we are fully accredited by Humanists UK, insured, DBS checked and part of a network of celebrants who can step in to cover for us on the day, even at the last minute, in the unlikely event we are not able to be there.

“I cannot recommend Jessica highly enough. She made so much effort to get to know us and our story beforehand and to put together the perfect script. She also gave us lots of advice as to what flows well during a service and little things such as the hand fasting so we could include our children. Jessica is really personable and has a very calming demeanor which really helps to put you at ease.”

— Alex and James

"Jessica was at all times very professional, personable, reassuring and fully committed.”

— Felicity and John

“We felt like we were in safe hands with Jess right from the start of the process.”

— Mel and Alf

HUMANIST CEREMONIES™ is the network of more than 550 celebrants, trained by national charity Humanists UK to a gold standard to provide memorable and meaningful humanist ceremonies to non-religious people. Operating throughout England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Channel Islands, we deliver authentic, tailor-made and heartfelt ceremonies for life’s key moments. They are always inclusive and welcoming, regardless of the beliefs of those attending.

You can trust Humanist Ceremonies celebrants: We are DBS-checked, fully insured, and regularly peer reviewed for quality assurance. We are committed to a code of conduct, and have a transparent and robust complaints process in the rare case of a problem. We all pay a monthly fee to Humanists UK to further support the work of the charity, and are part of a regional network for like-minded celebrants for support and learning.
