Hi, I'm Ian

I'm an experienced celebrant providing non-religious funerals, memorials and premorials ('living funerals').

Death - whenever and however it comes - is a part of life, and my job is to help families and friends through this difficult time. Saying goodbye is an important part of how we grieve for those we love, so I'll help you plan and hold a personal, meaningful celebration of life that suits your wishes.

You'll find me calm, careful and considerate - taking into account any sensitivities around your loved one's life and death, and making sure that everyone can enjoy the occasion and take part in a respectful way. For more about me and how I can help, please see https://humanist.org.uk/ianhembrow/

Enormous thanks for everything you did to help steer us through such a painful time to an occasion that none of us wanted to face. We agreed afterwards that there’s nothing we would have done differently. We’re so grateful for your support. Your calm, thoughtful, professional approach, your experience and good judgement - all gave us confidence and strength to do what we wanted to do.

— Heather Hurford (family member)

Thank you so much for yesterday and the wonderful service you delivered! On the way back, the family were all saying that you were amazing! It was a pleasure to work with you!

— Leanne Tolhurst (funeral director)

HUMANIST CEREMONIES™ is the network of more than 550 celebrants, trained by national charity Humanists UK to a gold standard to provide memorable and meaningful humanist ceremonies to non-religious people. Operating throughout England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Channel Islands, we deliver authentic, tailor-made and heartfelt ceremonies for life’s key moments. They are always inclusive and welcoming, regardless of the beliefs of those attending.

You can trust Humanist Ceremonies celebrants: We are DBS-checked, fully insured, and regularly peer reviewed for quality assurance. We are committed to a code of conduct, and have a transparent and robust complaints process in the rare case of a problem. We all pay a monthly fee to Humanists UK to further support the work of the charity, and are part of a regional network for like-minded celebrants for support and learning.

Humanist funerals

Humanist funerals, memorials and ash ceremonies are a fitting way to honour a unique life with warmth, sensitivity and meaning, but without reference to religion or an afterlife. They put the story of the person who has died at the heart of the ceremony, paying tribute to them and the legacy they leave, and provide an opportunity to bring people together, not just to share sadness but to celebrate a life lived.
