Never did I ever think I would be able to conduct a funeral - I cry at adverts on TV and can't watch a movie where there is a possibility that a dog might get harmed or die. But thanks to the wonderful training from Humanist UK and a deep down self belief that I would be able to, I am an accredited funeral celebrant. And it is a job I really love. I know that may sound strange, but I feel genuinely privileged to hear the stories of loved ones and to help people in a time of great sadness and grief. I work hard to really get to understand what the person was like and how the family want the funeral to be and do my upmost to craft a ceremony that does their loved one justice. It's my job along with the funeral directors to get the family through an incredibly tough day and my strong working relationships with funeral directors allows me to do that to a high standard.
Hi, I'm Emma
I can't thank you enough for how you conducted the service. The family have taken great comfort from it. You clearly have a gift. Keep up the good work.
— Davy
Many thanks Emma, we've had many kind comments about Bob's service and the way it was conducted. Thank you for making it so interesting and all about Bob, it meant so much to us.
— Judy and Jonathan
Thank you so much for telling our stories about my dad and grandad in such a beautiful way.

HUMANIST CEREMONIES™ is the network of more than 550 celebrants, trained by national charity Humanists UK to a gold standard to provide memorable and meaningful humanist ceremonies to non-religious people. Operating throughout England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Channel Islands, we deliver authentic, tailor-made and heartfelt ceremonies for life’s key moments. They are always inclusive and welcoming, regardless of the beliefs of those attending.
You can trust Humanist Ceremonies celebrants: We are DBS-checked, fully insured, and regularly peer reviewed for quality assurance. We are committed to a code of conduct, and have a transparent and robust complaints process in the rare case of a problem. We all pay a monthly fee to Humanists UK to further support the work of the charity, and are part of a regional network for like-minded celebrants for support and learning.
Humanist funerals
Humanist funerals, memorials and ash ceremonies are a fitting way to honour a unique life with warmth, sensitivity and meaning, but without reference to religion or an afterlife. They put the story of the person who has died at the heart of the ceremony, paying tribute to them and the legacy they leave, and provide an opportunity to bring people together, not just to share sadness but to celebrate a life lived.
