Hi, I'm Cath

Hello, my name is Cath York and I conduct funerals and celebration of life ceremonies in North Tyneside and across the North East.

Losing someone you love is always difficult and it can seem daunting to be faced with the practicalities of organising their funeral.

I can help you through this whole process and make sure that the funeral ceremony reflects the life and the personality of the person who has died. I will work with you to understand their life story and the sort of person they were, to create a fitting tribute to them. This can include tributes from family and friends and meaningful music, readings and poetry, as appropriate.

Humanist ceremonies are non-religious, reflecting the fact that faith was not an important part of the life of the deceased. However, they are inclusive and welcome those of all faiths to the ceremony.

A Humanist funeral ceremony may take place in a crematorium, or it may be a burial in a graveyard or burial site. Alternatively, it may be a memorial service at a venue of your choice. This type of service is becoming more popular for families who opt for direct cremations.

Whatever you have chosen, I will work with you to make sure that the ceremony is exactly what you want it to be and that it is perfect for the person whose life has ended.

Contact me

Please do contact me if you are looking for a professional celebrant to create and lead a non-religious ceremony for your loved one. I am more than happy to have an initial conversation with you to explain more about what I do and how I work.

"The ceremony was perfect - thank you for producing such a lovely service for our Mum - it was a real celebration of her life"

"Thank you for the lovely memorial service for my brother. Everyone commented on how lovely it was and how personal. I also want to say thanks for all your help and support - it has been so appreciated at this difficult time."

"I really want to let you know how much everybody loved the ceremony. You absolutely captured the essence of our Mum in the fabulous send off you created and you spoke beautifully. It could not have been more perfect. It was also a real pleasure to work with you - you helped to make a very difficult, sad and stressful time, more manageable - and for that we thank you from the bottom of our hearts."

HUMANIST CEREMONIES™ is the network of more than 550 celebrants, trained by national charity Humanists UK to a gold standard to provide memorable and meaningful humanist ceremonies to non-religious people. Operating throughout England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Channel Islands, we deliver authentic, tailor-made and heartfelt ceremonies for life’s key moments. They are always inclusive and welcoming, regardless of the beliefs of those attending.

You can trust Humanist Ceremonies celebrants: We are DBS-checked, fully insured, and regularly peer reviewed for quality assurance. We are committed to a code of conduct, and have a transparent and robust complaints process in the rare case of a problem. We all pay a monthly fee to Humanists UK to further support the work of the charity, and are part of a regional network for like-minded celebrants for support and learning.

Humanist funerals

Humanist funerals, memorials and ash ceremonies are a fitting way to honour a unique life with warmth, sensitivity and meaning, but without reference to religion or an afterlife. They put the story of the person who has died at the heart of the ceremony, paying tribute to them and the legacy they leave, and provide an opportunity to bring people together, not just to share sadness but to celebrate a life lived.
