Hi, I'm Andrew

How I came to be a funeral celebrant is on this page. Please do look at my testimonials page for samples of feedback, which I have gratefully received.

Both my sister and my dad received Humanist funerals and I was very much involved in the planning and delivery of their separate ceremonies. I felt so grateful that ceremonies could be created that were uniquely right for them, and these experiences inspired me to want to offer this service to other people. This is why I trained as a celebrant with Humanists UK.

It’s a huge privilege to be able help people at this very specific time of need. As well as it being a respectful goodbye, a funeral ceremony can also be a celebration of a person’s life. With carefully chosen stories, poems, readings, music choices and other contributions, a Humanist funeral ceremony is an opportunity to truly reflect and remember a person’s unique way of experiencing the world.

Should you wish to work with me, we can meet and talk about your loved one’s life, professions and interests, before working towards devising the ‘perfect’ ceremony for them. You may wish to leave everything up to me, and that is also absolutely fine. I can suggest a variety of potential readings or poetry which may be suitable.

In advance of the ceremony, I always check that you are completely happy with the tribute for the service.

I work mostly in South East London, but am more than happy to make arrangements to travel.

Andrew,

Thank you so much for the wonderful, thoughtful and empathic way you led and conducted the ceremony for our Dad.

From the outset you put us at ease, making suggestions for the order of service, and helping so much with the timings, which really took a load off our minds and meant we had more time to concentrate on our eulogies.

We were able to really be present at the service, knowing you were on top of everything, and your words during the committal were beautiful.

It was a perfect celebration, one our Dad would have approved of, along with the fact you are a fellow Palace supporter!

Thank you for all your time and patience, we will certainly suggest you to others.

Kind Regards,

Sam and Laura

Operating throughout England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Channel Islands, we deliver authentic, tailor-made and heartfelt ceremonies for life’s key moments. They are always inclusive and welcoming, regardless of the beliefs of those attending.

You can trust Humanist Ceremonies celebrants: We are DBS-checked, fully insured, and regularly peer reviewed for quality assurance. We are committed to a code of conduct, and have a transparent and robust complaints process in the rare case of a problem. We all pay a monthly fee to Humanists UK to further support the work of the charity, and are part of a regional network for like-minded celebrants for support and learning.

Humanist funerals

Humanist funerals, memorials and ash ceremonies are a fitting way to honour a unique life with warmth, sensitivity and meaning, but without reference to religion or an afterlife. They put the story of the person who has died at the heart of the ceremony, paying tribute to them and the legacy they leave, and provide an opportunity to bring people together, not just to share sadness but to celebrate a life lived.
