Hi, I'm Alan
Every life is different and a good funeral ceremony will be just as unique, honouring and celebrating the life lived.
I work with family, relatives or friends to plan a ceremony that is special, telling the story of the person who has died, their values, what they did, what they loved, the music they enjoyed, their interests and what made them special to everyone else.
Tributes and memories from family members and friends are very welcome, helping to make the ceremony even more personal, along with the music you have chosen, poetry and readings.
Celebration of Life ceremonies or parties held at a different time and place following a direct cremation, where there is no service at the crematorium, are increasingly popular. If you would like to discuss a Celebration of Life, please get in touch.
I also prepare 'advance ceremonies' for people who have had a terminal diagnosis and want to put in place their plans and arrangements for when the time comes. This can often comfort them and their family, knowing the ceremony will be as they planned.
Before training to become a Celebrant, my career was in media and public relations, where I worked for several large organisations. It has been a great help now in preparing funeral ceremonies and drawing together the threads of a life lived and telling that person's special and unique story.
"Thank you for the excellent service you gave us with the arrangements and on the day itself, we have had a lot of compliments and positive feedback. People have said that it was a wonderful service & the nicest funeral they have been to."
"We couldn‘t have wished for a better tribute for Mum. It was perfect in every way."
"Thank you so much. The ceremony was lovely, just right. So many guests commented on how true it was. He would have appreciated it himself."

HUMANIST CEREMONIES™ is the network of more than 550 celebrants, trained by national charity Humanists UK to a gold standard to provide memorable and meaningful humanist ceremonies to non-religious people. Operating throughout England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Channel Islands, we deliver authentic, tailor-made and heartfelt ceremonies for life’s key moments. They are always inclusive and welcoming, regardless of the beliefs of those attending.
You can trust Humanist Ceremonies celebrants: We are DBS-checked, fully insured, and regularly peer reviewed for quality assurance. We are committed to a code of conduct, and have a transparent and robust complaints process in the rare case of a problem. We all pay a monthly fee to Humanists UK to further support the work of the charity, and are part of a regional network for like-minded celebrants for support and learning.
Humanist funerals
Humanist funerals, memorials and ash ceremonies are a fitting way to honour a unique life with warmth, sensitivity and meaning, but without reference to religion or an afterlife. They put the story of the person who has died at the heart of the ceremony, paying tribute to them and the legacy they leave, and provide an opportunity to bring people together, not just to share sadness but to celebrate a life lived.
