FEMICIDE: What can humanists do about the escalating level of violence against women and girls? | Bangor Humanists
4 March 2025, 19:00

Violence against women and girls is an ever-present and increasing evil in our society. In 2023, the Executive Office published its 'Ending Violence Against Women and Girls’ strategic framework document. It calls out that this is a systemic and deep-rooted problem that affects women and girls wherever they live, learn and work. It advises that ‘societal culture and systemic attitudes and beliefs enable violence against women and girls’. In October 2024, the Belfast Telegraph reported that ‘Northern Ireland is now one of the most lethal places in Europe for women’. Since 2020, twenty-five women have been murdered here, with many of these killings occurring within their own homes.
