Write to your MP: Bring back abortion rights promise

The UK has deleted abortion rights from an international human rights statement. Help us put it back.

The UK Government has unilaterally changed an international human rights statement on women’s rights to delete the right to ‘bodily autonomy’ – i.e. contraception and abortion.

We alerted the media to these shocking changes and brought together an international coalition of concerned countries and organisations to condemn the UK Government’s actions.

But in the wake of recent events in the United States around Roe v Wade, we’re deeply troubled at what this move might signal. We need your help if we’re to see the original commitment to women’s full ‘sexual and reproductive rights’ RESTORED to the international statement where it belongs.

Will you write to your MP today to defend abortion rights and get the original statement restored? Enter your postcode to get started and take action in two easy steps.

We’ve suggested some text you can use, but please, if you are able, do edit it to make it more personal – we know that MPs are more likely to take notice of personalised emails and queries, which are infinitely more powerful than standard letters.

Here are some examples:

  • If you’ve ever needed an abortion or reproductive healthcare   – please write, if you feel able to, about why protecting your right to access these services is important.
  • If you are from another country where anti-abortion laws are more restrictive – please refer to this, explain how the removal of these rights from the statement makes you feel
  • If you are a medical professional – please explain your professional opinion on the need to protect these rights in order to keep people healthy, happy, and safe

Thank you for your support.
