Humanist representation on SACREs (Standing Advisory Councils on Religious Education) – the local bodies that guide religious education provision in England and Wales – is so important to help guarantee RE that is both high-quality and fully inclusive of non-religious perspectives. Over 120 of these committees in England and Wales already have a humanist member. We need help with maintaining our records of SACREs and humanist reps, liaising with SACRE chairs and clerks, publicising the SACRE rep role, and filling vacancies. By volunteering as our SACRE Coordinator you can make a real contribution to our aim of having humanist representation on all SACREs, and to supporting reps in their work.
The role can be carried out remotely or at the Humanists UK office. We anticipate it requiring a couple of hours a week. If you have great communication skills, some experience of schools or education, and are keen to make a real difference to awareness and representation of humanism in SACREs, take a look at the information pack to find out more.
To apply, please write to us telling us why the role interests you, and what skills and experience you would bring to it. You can contact us by email, with ‘SACRE Coordinator’ in the subject line, to email@example.com. Applications will be considered on a rolling basis.
If you have any questions, please contact the Education Development Manager, Maggie Goodall, by email to firstname.lastname@example.org and she’ll be very happy to talk more about the role with you.
