By volunteering as our SACRE/SAC Coordinator you can make a real contribution to our aim of having humanist representation on all these committees, and to supporting reps in their work.
Humanist representation on SACREs (Standing Advisory Councils on Religious Education) in England and SACs (Standing Advisory Councils for Religion, Values and Ethics) in Wales – the bodies that guide local authorities’ religious education provision – is so important to help guarantee a subject and teaching that are both high-quality and fully inclusive of non-religious perspectives.
Over 120 of these committees in England and Wales already have a humanist member. We need help with maintaining our records of SACREs/SACs and humanist reps, liaising with committee chairs and clerks, publicising the SACRE/SAC rep role, and filling vacancies.
The role of SACRE/SAC Coordinator can be carried out remotely or at the Humanists UK office. We anticipate it requiring a couple of hours a week. If you have great communication skills, some experience of schools or education, and are keen to make a real difference to awareness and representation of humanism in SACREs/SACs, take a look at the information pack to find out more.
To apply, please write to us telling us why the role interests you, and what skills and experience you would bring to it. You can contact us by email, with ‘SACRE/SAC Coordinator’ in the subject line, to education@humanists.uk. Applications will be considered on a rolling basis.
If you have any questions, please contact the Education Development Manager, Maggie Goodall, by email to maggie@humanists.uk and she’ll be very happy to talk more about the role with you.
