After retiring from a social work career in the criminal and family courts, I looked for something that provided a way of using my existing skills and developing new ones. I discovered the role of the Humanist funeral celebrant, which has proved to be immensely satisfying and rewarding.
I think that it is crucial that those of us without a religious faith have the opportunity to remember and celebrate a life that has ended either through a funeral or memorial service.
As your celebrant I will use my skills and training to create a meaningful ceremony, which may include tributes plus music and readings. However every ceremony is unique and comes from working closely with family members and friends. I will be involved throughout the process and I will lead the ceremony and support others who contribute where appropriate. If a funeral director is involved I will liaise closely with them.
I am also able to offer the opportunity to pre-plan your funeral by discussing your wishes and having them recorded and stored securely. Having this information available can provide reassurance that your wishes are known and this can be a great help to your family at a difficult time.
If you would like to discuss your needs further please don't hesitate to contact me as I will be pleased to help in any way that I can.
I'm afraid that I shall be unavailable for about 8 weeks from mid June as I am having a hip replacement. Please look at the Find a Celebrant page for alternatives in your area.
