Humanists UK’s response to terrorist attack in New Zealand

15 March, 2019

Christchurch central

Humanists UK has issued a statement in response to the terrorist attack which occurred in Christchurch, New Zealand today.

Humanists UK Chief Executive Andrew Copson said: ‘This is an atrocity of heartbreaking proportions for a free and peaceful country like New Zealand. Innocent people going about their everyday lives have been targeted. As the Humanist Society of New Zealand said this morning, our thoughts are with them and all the families and communities affected by this terrible crime.’

‘White nationalism is a major threat to our peace and freedom. Its adherents victimise and murder minorities like Jews and Muslims and they vilify and kill humanists and progressives, their ideological opponents, like the late Jo Cox MP or the young social democrats of Norway. Their numbers are growing across the western world and those of us who oppose their worldview must stand together and not be separated by the dynamo of hate.’
