Michael Sani is Chief Executive of Bite the Ballot.

Michael Sani is one of the U.K’s leading social entrepreneurs who specialises in purpose-driven engagement. Under his leadership Bite The Ballot has grown from a lunchtime club in one school to a national movement. He has led world record-breaking voter registration campaigns and driven changes in policy and legislation to increase civic engagement.

During the European Referendum Michael was called into Downing Street to support the Prime Minister’s call for all the largest UK tech companies to call for their audiences to register to vote. Bite The Ballot activated a nationwide voter registration drive across key digital platforms including Tinder, Twitter, Facebook, Uber and Deliveroo. This resulted in over 1.1 million young citizens register to vote. During the campaign an estimated 1.85 million citizens applied to register to vote and crashed the Gov.UK portal with the last gasp efforts to ensure they could participate in the referendum.

Lord Alf Dubs

Lord Alf Dubs is a Labour peer.

At the age of six, Lord Dubs was one of 669 Czech-resident, mainly Jewish, children saved from the Nazis by English stockbroker Nicholas Winton on the Kindertransport (Dubs’ father was Jewish). Dubs learned how he had arrived in the UK when Nicholas Winton’s story was broadcast in 1988. He later met Winton in person and campaigned for him to be knighted, which he was. In 1979, Lord Dubs was elected as an MP for Battersea South, and from 1988 to 1995 he was director of the Refugee Council. Among Lord Dubs’ many achievements, he sponsored an amendment to the Immigration Act 2016 to offer unaccompanied refugee children safe passage to Britain amidst the European migrant crisis. His amendment, with some revisions, was eventually accepted by the Government after public opinion swung decisively in favour of supporting child refugees.

About

What are we doing on campus and in society to create a tolerant world where rational thinking and kindness prevail? How do we capitalise on the growing number of young non-religious people to ensure humanist values are understood and promoted

At the event we’ll hear from inspirational speakers about how to win humanist campaigns, respond to the needs of our communities, build bridges with like-minded organisations, and learn to talk about humanism to anyone, regardless of their background, with conviction and clarity. You’ll leave with an understanding of the skills, tools, and leadership qualities needed to make the humanist movement an effective catalyst for social change.
